This video presents the architectural and urban project Vallecas Industrial Highline that I prepared for the honors tribunal. The project consists of both individual work and collaborative teamwork, with the teamwork segment beginning at minute 2:10.
Our project arises from a new way of approaching urban studies, based on the contemplation of the relational idiosyncrasy of the residents of Vallecas, characterized by the strong bond between its inhabitants. We studied the 'why' in order to analyze how the new residential buildings in Puente de Vallecas will be received.
First, by conducting a demographic study, we observed that the demographic diversity in Vallecas is not significant compared to other neighborhoods in Madrid.
Therefore, we approached it from the perspective of 'Barrionalismo' (neighborhoodism), which describes belonging to a neighborhood as a fundamental ingredient in defining and defending one’s identity. This led us to investigate a new concept: the unifying factor, which would explain why Vallecas, despite its diversity, is such a united neighborhood, prone to association, and with a high level of bridging or connective social capital.
